Join us at the Eyam for the annual Carnival. The streets are decorated with bunting, the annual Sheep-Roast takes place and thousands of visitors attend. Several wells are dressed according to Derbyshire tradition, with decorations throughout the village. The week concludes with the Plague Commemoration service, held on the final Sunday of August.
Eyam (pronounced 'eem') became known for its actions during the Black Death outbreak of 1665 and 1666. The villagers chose to isolate themselves to prevent the spread of plague to neighbouring areas.
Mompesson's Well is situated above the village and was historically used as a site for exchanging money for food provided by others. The Boundary Stone, located between Eyam and Stoney Middleton, also served as a point where money was left in vinegar for the exchange of goods and provisions.
Directions:
From the A623 turn towards Foolow and then turn right towards Eyam and the rally field is on the left.
